That could probably have been phrased differently.

so you're saying that's not how i should greet people? cuz that's my favorite opener.
I would reccomend you be more explicit. Instead of, "Wow you look great, I didn't recognize you," I would go with "You're not as fat as I remember you" or "Glad to see you trimmed your nose hair."
